World's Youngest Jiu Jitsu Fighter: Logan John Cimins at 16 months old
My son, Logan was born on June 13, 2007 and always loved watching grappling and BJJ on videos with his Daddy. He's been to more than 20 grappling events and 2 MMA events since birth and even watches some UFC events on PPV at home with us.
In the Winter of 2008, our sponsor, Gameness (www.Gameness.net) produced a custom made kimono for him and when he was "almost" big enough to wear it and he already wanted to do an "AHBAR" (as he called the Armbar).
Logan and I get to play grapple every day without the pressures of a class setting, but this NATURAL motion was never taught to him. It is natural for kids to want to use their kids to kick up or grab during diaper changing and that['s when I noticed it looked like a submission attempt and wanted to capture this on video. We NEVER practiced, because I don't believe in teaching kids under 5 years old any submissions for safety reasons. We don't want some Kindergartner choked out...LOL
As a former instructor, I found that kids younger than 4 years old can get bored with basic instruction and how GAMES can help keep their interest. I'd also recommend all of the grappling or jiu jitsu parents to not FORCE your children into any sport or martial art at any age, because from my experience, these kids burnt out or quit inside of the first year. I would recommend letting them try out a free class and attend with them to show your kids you care and are interested in their activities.
Here's an Armbar from The World's Youngest Jiu Jitsu Fighter: Logan Cimins at 16 months old:
NOTE: If anyone has footage of young kids doing submissions or grappling under the age of 2 years old, PLEASE post it here!
