Sparring last night

Last night was the first time in a long time that I was able to set aside teaching duties and get some good sparring in. It was nice to get in there and work on takedowns and defense of takedowns.

My First Grapplers Quest

I had not been in competetion for 25 years and my comeback was the 2008 North American Championship in New Jersey. At 51 I was eager to represent and excited to be "back in the game". While I did not win, I held my opponent who was younger and from a Gracie studio to half the match, aside from getting the first hold on him, a headlock.
I got kudos from his camp and my confidence meter skyrocketed. I love Grappler's Quest events!!!

Boston based - Trying to debate between Gracie Barra and Florian Martian Arts

Recently moved to Boston and will probably not be here much longer due to my job. I've only trained no-gi and never trained in a gi but I've always wanted to. I've heard good things about both Gracie Barra and Florian Martial Arts Center. Leaning towards Gracie Barra as they have more locations all over the US (but as it looks like I might be headed to New York I'm not sure there is a GB location there). Any recommendations from anyone that trains at either location here - GB in Newton and FMAC in Brookline and also know if they do a month to month? Thanks in advance!

Doctor Visits

Just had two doctor visits in two days. I got my toe checked out, I have a bursa caused by turf toe and need to wear a toe brace when I roll now. Not the end of the world but still a pain in the ass. I also got my elbow x-rayed since I hyper extended it, doctor said I was healing well and I my joint is healthy, so good news about that. Since there are no GQ around me for a few months I'm hoping to compete at the Tokey Hill Challenge in King of Prussia in two weekends.
